Corey, unlike many of the players who made it to the professional ranks, chose a different path to get there. Instead of heading off to prep school, he headed out to Plymouth, MI to try out for the OHL Junior A, Compu-Ware Ambassadors. While things didn’t work out as planned, he found his way to the USHL with the Sioux Falls Stampede.

On March 15th, 2006, the Toronto Marlies signed Corey to an amateur try-out. After a few games played Jeff had the framework for a contract in place for the following season in the American Hockey League. He registered three points (two goals, and one assist) in nine games with the Marlies during the try-out.
On September 14, 2006, the Toronto Marlies announced the signings of four players, including Jeff Corey. Corey, 23, registered 99 points (47 goals, 52 assists) while collecting 134 penalty minutes in 135 career NCAA games with the University of Vermont over a four-year playing career. The now 6-foot, 190-pound right wing enjoyed his best season while playing in 37 games for the Catamounts in 2004-05 when he finished second in regular-season team scoring by setting collegiate career highs in goals (17), assists (16), and points (33).
Corey went on to play six more seasons professionally in the AHL, ECHL, and overseas for two different clubs.
