Move over Grilli, there’s a new King in town

COLMAR PA. Whether you know it or not, there was a player by the name of Patrick Grilli who played for the Golden Hawks fifteen years ago. Patrick set the school record for goals scored (118) and overall points accumulated (214). Grilli played alongside a talented set of linemates, Pete Malamud and Tyler Dietrick, and they scored like crazy, and I mean crazy. Coincidentally, he was the youngest of the three. Together, the group accumulated nearly 500 points; all three are 100 points club members, and together, all three were an absolute terror to defend against in the SHSHL from 2008 – 2010, 2010 is when Dietrick and Malamud graduated, but not Grilli; he still had another year to wreak havoc over Suburban League opposition. Grilli went on to set the records that remained in place since his graduation in 2011. During their time, the Hawks won three division titles, two SHSHL titles, and two Flyers Cup Class AA titles.
Fast forward to 2025, a scoring phenom named Jake Weiner is tearing up the record books at Council Rock South and rewriting history in his senior year. Last year on December 5, 2024, Weiner hit the 100-point mark and then continued his torrid pace, finishing the season as the league scoring king with 63 points. The crazy thing about Jake’s point production is that he’s played with several different linemates over the course of his high school career. During Jake’s four years, the Hawks have won the division title three times and the SHSHL title three straight since 2023.

Here we are, almost a year to the day, and Jake surpassed 200 points on December 3rd, but more importantly, he’s demolished the original goal-scoring mark held by Patrick Grilli by 14 goals, standing currently at 132. Ladies and gentlemen, the season isn’t even half over. A combination of regular season, non-league, and non-stop postseason and Flyers Cup Tournament appearances affords this goal scoring machine the opportunity to absolutely crush every record this school hockey team has. Whatever the end of the season totals are, it’s almost certain that nobody is going to touch his records for a very long time, if ever. See you guys in a few months…
