La Salle Explorers ice hockey
What he has done
The 18-year-old senior scored a hat trick to lead the Explorers past Malvern Prep, 5-2, Thursday in a semifinal of the Flyers Cup Class AAA Division. Ciolli, a four-year varsity player, also had a goal and an assist in a 6-2 win March 20 over Cardinal O’Hara in the quarterfinals. The 5-foot-7 left winger does everything righthanded – except when he is playing hockey. One of 13 seniors on the team, he had two goals and two assists as La Salle opened the Flyers Cup tournament with a 10-1 win over Lower Dauphin on March 16. The Roxborough resident helped La Salle win the Flyers Cup and state title in 1998. The Explorers lost to Father Judge 5-4 in overtime, in Monday’s final.

What his coach says
“Ryan has the ability to step up and turn it on when he wants to, and he did that for us against Malvern. He’s quick and deceptive. His shot is not tremendously hard, but he can get the shot off in stride, and that’s hard to defend.” – Wally Muehlbronner
