“We didn’t really set out to roll up the score,” protested Archbishop Carroll ice hockey Coach Gary Vetre in the wake of the 20-0 victory over Lower Merion High School. “With just 12 guys on the team, we had no choice but to play our best people the whole way.” Which meant that Scott Chamness kept swooping in from right wing until he had 10 goals, running his season total to 55 goals and 32 assists, tops in the Inter-County League. The rugged forward, who also skates for the Little Flyers, won the scoring championship last year as a sophomore with 66 goals and 55 assists in 18 games. The line of Chamness, center Greg Arnold, and left wing Jim Bolger ranks 1-2- 3 in this year’s scoring race.
