Going out in style
Don Quinn has saved his best for last.
Quinn, a senior center on the La Salle hockey team, has a career-best 48 goals and 33 assists this season for the Explorers (24-3-1).
“We’re just a better all-around team, and we’re playing very well,” Quinn said. “And my linemates [sophomores Mike Farrell and David Rambo have helped out.”
Quinn is in his fourth year as a varsity player at La Salle but has been playing organized hockey for 12 years. He also plays club hockey for the Philadelphia Junior Flyers.
“Don is very smart,” Explorers coach Peter Nolan said. “One of the biggest things that has allowed him to be so dominating is that he’s very intelligent. Other things are that he is so very, very sound fundamentally; skates very well; has good speed, good stick work, and a good shot, but most of all, he has a good overall feel for the game.”
Quinn had a hat trick last Thursday as the Explorers beat North Penn, 8-1, to improve to 9-0 in Inter County League play.
“I just shoot the puck and hope it goes in,” Quinn said of his prolific scoring. “I figure the more times you shoot, the more times you can score.’ “I’m not a vocal leader,” Quinn said. “I just do my job out there on the ice.”
Quinn, who is considering playing college hockey at Iona or Villanova, also plays baseball at La Salle. “I like how hockey keeps moving. It’s a nonstop game,” Quinn said. “And you have to play both offense and defense at the same time.” Quinn finished his four-year high school career with 254 points, a school record.
