ERIE, Pa. Baldwin High School became the first Pennsylvania high school hockey champion with a sweep of three games in the title tournament over the weekend. The Highlanders, led by Jim Cox, downed Churchill yesterday in overtime in the final, 4-3. Earlier wins came against Springfield and Erie McDowell. Baldwin finished the season with a 24-4-2 record. Cox, who had scored a goal earlier, banged in the winning shot at 1:10 in the sudden death period. Cox was voted the tournament MVP. Churchill’s Vern Shaver also scored a pair of goals, the second one giving his team a 3-3 tie in the third period. The other goals were scored by Baldwin’s Keith Colgan and Dave Rader and Churchill’s Jack Foster. Shaver, Keith Kamel and Scott Kimmick of Churchill (22-6-1) made the all-tournament team along with Cox and Baldwin goalie Brad Allman, who had 23 saves.
