April 3, 1999The Eagles beat Meadville in triple overtime to take the Class AAA hockey crown.
In what may have been the most dramatic championship game in Pennsylvania state ice hockey playoff history, Conwell-Egan battled for nearly 73 minutes to claim the school’s first Class AAA title. Junior center Brian Tetley, who had been stymied several times in overtime, had the last word in a grueling affair as he won a face-off, sneaked past a defender, and slipped a stick-side shot into the net as the Eagles outlasted traditional power Meadville, 3-2, in triple overtime last night. The game was played in front of an overflow crowd at the Grundy Recreation Center in Bristol Borough. “It’s an amazing feeling,” Tetley said. “At that point in the game, when you’re dead tired and dragging a little bit, you just want to do whatever you can to end the game.”
