The Flyers Cup preliminary rounds confirmed what most hockey people had long suspected – Archbishop Carroll is in a league by itself. Unfortunately for the Patriots, however, they’ll have to come back to the Penn rink again tomorrow night to prove it, before they can claim the Cup. Again. The defending Flyers Cup champions moved through the round-robin preliminaries with a record of 3-0, easily defeating Inter-County League rival Haverford, 7-3, last night.
Haverford also advances to tomorrow’s final (8:15 p.m. at the Class of 1923 Rink, 32d and Walnut Streets) after Cup officials sifted through a complicated tie-breaking procedure. After Germantown Academy had dusted off Bishop Egan, 8-5, and missed qualifying for the final round by one goal, Carroll and Haverford faced off for the fifth time this season. Carroll (25-1) now has won all five games against Haverford (17-6-3).
